A brief history of the Rubiks Cube

Although the Rubiks cube made its first commercial debut in1980, the inventor of the Rubiks cube, Ernõ Rubik, a professor from Budapest had been working on his cube since 1974. The concept started as a way for the professor to help his students understand three dimensional problems. 1981 was the year when the Rubiks cube really took off after being advertised on TV, it was an instant hit and became a world wide craze! In the early years, the cube was considered by many to be unsolvable. However, this assumption soon proved not to be the case. In 1981 A 12 year old called Partick Bossert released a book called ‘you can do the cube’ and it sold over 1.5 million copies! Selling so many copies in the 80s what not only an amazing feat for a 12 year old boy, but the fact that this sales figure was reached without the Internet is mind boggling. How did we ever live without the Internet?
